Getting Ready for Fall

I have a group of crafting friends on Facebook.  Every so often we hold a challenge to help us put on our creativity hats.  Right now we have a challenge going to make something with Fall Colors.  So I went to the store and what did I see?

I think it fits our Fall Colors challenge perfectly.  Now I just need to make something with it.  :-)

I think I will challenge myself as well and make something I've never done before.  Stay tuned to see how it turns out!

Two More - Part 2

I said two more were coming soon....well here they are!

Two new baby blanket patterns!  The Danbury Baby Afghan is made with worsted weight yarn with bands of color in varying sizes.  Oversized for use in crib or as a lapghan.

The Fairfax Baby Blanket pattern is designed to look good on both sides.  Any combinations of colors would look good or it can also be done all in one color!  Sized to be perfect for a newborn!

Both are available in my Etsy shop, on Craftsy and on Ravelry.

Easton Baby Blanket Pattern

It's finally ready!  I've finished my Easton Baby Afghan Pattern and both it and the example blanket are available in my Etsy Shop -

I loved working on this.  The flower squares were fun to make and putting it all together was much easier than I had anticipated.  I love how it turned out.  The picot edging seems like the perfect finish for it too!

More stuff in the works and more ready for picture taking so hope to show you all soon!

Knitting Needles

Whoo hoo, this week I got my first set of interchangeable knitting needles.  I checked out a few brands but finally decided to go with Knit Picks...and they happened to be 25% off too!

Last week at the Chain Gang Crochet Guild meeting we had a little "Christmas in July" gift exchange and I received 3 balls of Bernat Satin Sport in a pretty dusty pink color.  When the knitting needles arrived this yarn was perfect for a scarf project I've been wanting to try.  Sooooo.......

I'm off and stitching away!  I will show you all the finished product when it's done.

I also found the time to do some blocking and blocked the rest of the parts needed for my next pattern too!  So I hope to be finishing that up soon as well.

Til next time....Stitch on!

Current Projects

Whew, where does the time go?  Well, a lot of it is spent running around the house and in and out while trying to train a new puppy.  Dixie is growing and finally starting to get the idea of what "outside" means (also "go potty").  I finally got a picture of her cute face.  This is what she looks like (before her first haircut which is scheduled for next week)

While she *is* keeping me pretty busy right now, I am getting in some stitching time in the late evenings when the dogs all settle down for the night.  I'm currently working on 4 projects.  One is going to be a gift for a friend, one is something I've never stitched before, and one is a new stitch variation that I learned recently.

I have another project I'm working on as well, but I'm not ready to share a preview picture of it yet.  Hopefully I'll be able to do that soon.

Til next time....Stitch on!

Introducing Miss Dixie

New puppy, housebreaking puppy, and rain = not much time to work on ...anything atm. I have 2 new baby blankets done, along with 2 slouch hats and an infinity scarf. In the works is another new baby afghan pattern and example along with another baby blanket. Hopefully I'll get some sunshine for pictures and time to take them soon!
FYI, for those that are interested...the new puppy is a toy poodle.  She's a purebred sable multi-colored and at 12 weeks weighs only about 4 lbs. She's all fluffy fur and sweet as can be.  Sawyer loves her and has .taken up the job of protective older brother.  Sophie is fine with her too as long as she isn't stealing away Sophie's toys lol (which she does all the time!).  The new little one is named Miss Dixie :-)

Pink Camo

What do you get when you match a very pretty pink yarn with camo?  You get a Cameron Baby Afghan!

When I saw these colors used together I just *HAD* to make this and write up a pattern for it.  I love how the colors work together.  This design was inspired by Barbara Berger.
I'm already working on my next design which is done with blue, white and blue camo but is a different design from this one!

Yarn Inspection

Sometimes you just have to sit back, have a laugh, and start over.

I've been working on another new crocheted baby blanket design this week.  After a few days of trial and error to get the right number of stitches, the stitch pattern, etc. worked out I finally got to where I could sit and work on the prototype of the design.  Thinking at that point that I had it easy...just needed to work up the prototype and then fine tune the pattern...well...this happened...LOL

Sophie (on the bottom rolling around in the yarn) and Sawyer (top one saying "You don't see me.  I didn't have that yarn in my mouth.  I'm just laying here.") decided to test the yarn to make sure I was using the best quality yarn available.  The yarn passed the test (whew).  I snipped off the "test yardage" and once again got to restart the afghan.
So...I don't have anything new to show this time because I'm still working on it...(wonder why LOL)...but I thought you all would enjoy these two as much as I did.  I love them dearly and they are always good for a laugh or smile :-)

New Baby Blanket and Pattern

Well, I got the big order for the bookmarks completed and sent out.  I also was able to get pictures of my newest design, the Berkley Baby Blanket.  It's a baby blanket that is a blend of bobbles and openwork.  I've got the pattern written up too.  Both the prototype and the pattern are available for purchase in my Etsy shop ( )

Here's what it looks like :-)

I really enjoyed designing this and already have another design completed which I will make available soon.  I'm also working on couple of more ideas too!

Almost Done!

Whoo Hoo!  I'm almost done with the big tatted bookmark order.  They are all made and blocked.  Now I just need to package them up for shipping.

AND...I finished my example baby blanket for my next crochet pattern!  YAY!  It turned out really nice and I have the pattern notes ready to write up in .pdf format to make it available for sale.  I just need to take some pictures and add them to the pattern.

PLUS...I already am at work on the NEXT baby blanket crochet pattern!  Plus I have an idea for the one after that!  It seems on a baby afghan

So at the moment, lots going on and lots to come!

So Many Projects. So Many Ideas.

I have a ton of ideas floating through my head and quite a few projects on my crochet hooks or knitting needles.  Plus I'm still working on the tatted bookmarks order....only a couple more of those to go!  So my fingers are flying, my wrists are aching...and I'm trying hard to finish up something so I can start something new!  lol...More soon.....

Still Working on Bookmarks

This week I'm still working on all those bookmarks that were ordered. I got two of them (1 order) completed and sent off.  Now I'm working on the big order of 10.  So far I have 4 of them done and hope to have the 5th one done by the end of the weekend.

Also I recently got some new yarns (new to me anyway!).  I've never tried making one of those twisty scarves so I picked up some Red Heart Sashay Metallic and plan to try making one of them soon.

Also I saw a video on You Tube that caught my interest so I got some Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable yarn for that project.

Hopefully I'll have some pictures of these projects in process soon.

Still Chillin'

We have another cold spell coming :-(  I'm sooooo ready for spring.  However I do have to admit that I'm enjoying making some scarves and cowls and hats.

I made this one a while back but finally got around to listing it in my Etsy shop ( ).  I absolutely LOVE the beautiful peacock blue color and it's so SOFT I could just sit and squish it for hours.

I made this one extra long (it's 72 inches long) so it can be used as a fashion scarf, a winter neck warmer, or even wrapped like a cowl.

I have lots and lots of ideas for some scarves and baby afghans that I want to make up.  So expect lots of that kind of thing to start showing up :-)

What I'm working on

Just thought I'd drop a quick note about what I'm working on this week.  Over the last two days I've gotten in orders for 12 tatted bookmarks with a possibility of up to 6 more.  This is the one I've gotten the most orders for:

It's the Maria Cross bookmark designed by Lene Bjorn.  The other design is a heart bookmark with a heart designed by Irene Woo

I will enjoy working on these, but hope it isn't too much for my hands all at once.  I don't want another stress injury like I had before that took 8 months to heal!  So I plan to take lots of breaks and just work on them a little at a time until I get them done.

What's Up?

So...what's up with me?  I've been helping my daughter get her new shop, Jen's Craft Cottage ( ) started and stocked up. She will have a supply of handmade crochet washcloths, cup and can cozies, neck warmers, cowls, infinity scarves, and lots more things available.  While helping her research patterns, I also found a very nice pattern for an infinity scarf / cowl so I've made a couple of those too.

A friend of mine shared a picture of what she's been working on (some teddy bears) that I found adorable, so I went looking and found the pattern for the teddy bear and also one for a giraffe that I can't wait to try out.  Another pattern I found that I want to try is for a crochet hook holder.  So I'll probably be spending a lot of my creating time with a hook in hand :-)  Fear not though I'm also still tatting (I have a cross bookmark to make) and making jewelry as well (I have the supplies to make a pretty necklace on the way!)

In addition when I'm letting my hands rest I am still trying to get my Abigail Baby Sweater Set pattern written so that can then be shared with the world.

For this blog I plan to try harder to post 'in process' pictures rather than just the finished items.  But also to share more of my thoughts to make this more of a journal type blog.

So, that's what's up, what will be on the hook and what I plan for the blog.  I hope you all continue to visit and share my love of crafting and creating with me.

In The Works...

What am I working on right now?  Well, I am writing up a new pattern for this baby set.  And I'm wanting to make more chainmaille and beaded jewelry but am waiting for supplies to arrive.  In the mean time I'm also helping my daughter with a few things for her business.  Sooooo...hang in stuff coming fairly'm working on it!

Learning to Chenille

I've been wanting to learn another beadweaving style so this time I turned to the Chenille Stitch.  Making 2 small beaded ropes in this stitch I then curved it so the ends were together, added some seed beads as closures then attached to ear hooks.  The result created beaded earring hoops in the lovely Chenille Stitch.  It was much easier to make than I originally thought :-)

Available for purchase from my shops ( and )

Jingle Jangle Dangle

I'm really REALLY enjoying making chainmaille jewelry!  I even signed up for a class at one point, but the instructor was unprepared and more about selling store supplies than teaching anything. (I won't be taking any more of her classes!).  However while in the class I did learn the shaggy loops style of chainmaille which has later resulted in these earrings!

That's Amore'

When I first saw how these were made I said to myself "I just gotta learn to do this!"  And I did :-)

They are called 'puffy hearts'.  They can be made in all one color or 2 sided (I like I did) and I've even seen them done shaded from light to dark or shades of the rainbow.  No matter how they are done, they are beautiful!  They sparkle and twinkle in the light yet are light, and perfect for either day or evening wear.  This is my first 'puffy heart'.

It's made with crystal bicones (Czech fire polished) which are red on one side and pink on the other.  Accent beads are gold seed beads.  I will definitely be making more of these in different colors!

Available in either my zibbet shop ( ) or my Etsy store ( )

Gotta Love Evergreen

I had a customer order a bookmark made in the color evergreen.  It came out lovely and I wanted to share it with everyone.  I don't know the color number but it's Lizbeth thread and the design is by Jane McLellen.

I liked this so much I made a 2nd one and put it up for sale in my Etsy and Zibbet shops.

Lavender and Blue

When I was making my Golden Amber Pearl Beaded Bracelet I kept thinking about how the crystal beads would look pretty in other colors as well.  Then the next trip to my beading supply store and there they were....sets of lavender and blue beads with pink and rose beads to accent them.  So I just HAD to get them and make another bracelet.  This is the result:

The lavender, blue, pink, and rose crystals line the side of a white pearl center row then the white seed beads are added to create a chevron effect.

My Lavender Blue Crystal Beaded Bracelet is available in either my Zibbet Shop ( ) or my Etsy Shop ( )

Last night I dreamed about making a crystal heart so that's my next project.  I hope to start working on it tonight!

Floating Beads

I wanted to make something simple yet colorful that included beads but was also chainmaille.  So I put together this simple chainmaille design (it's called 2 in 1) and added 2 shades of Amber glass beads and 2 shades of Green glass beads in a way so the beads 'float' around the rings. It came out so nice I took the remaining beads and rings and made a matching pair of earrings to go with it!

I'm really happy with how it turned out and plan to make more of these in different colors!  The earrings come as a FREE GIFT with the purchase of the bracelet from either my Etsy shop ( ) or my Zibbet shop ( ).

Winter Blue Ice

Just finished listing another beaded bracelet.  This one is based on the right angle weave.  The base is white seed beads woven into a lattice work, then beaded over with blue bicone beads and blue lined seed beads.  It's finished off with a silver toned claw clasp.

It might look delicate but it's really solid and can be worn both for daytime or evening wear.  Available in either my Etsy shop ( ) or my Zibbet shop ( )

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

As some of you know I've been trying my hand at making some chainmaille jewelry.  I'm really enjoying the process and learning this new skill!   I didn't realize how important the size of the wire gauge and size of the ring (i.e. Aspect Ratio) is, but for some weaves if the Aspect Ratio isn't right the weave either won't work or is too loose.  Who knew I'd need to refresh my math skills to do this!

This is a picture of my attempts at Mobius Rosettes and making them into a bracelet and earrings.  I am learning new chainmaille 'weaves' and hope to have more available soon.

Available in either my Etsy shop ( ) or Zibbet store ( ).

Hello 2014 !

Greetings everyone!  It's a new year and with the new year I am adding new items to my product lines.  This year I will be adding both Beaded and Chainmaille items to my jewelry line.

Today's addition is a beautiful Golden Amber and Pearl Beaded bracelet.  The base of the bracelet is off white glass pearls and is lined on the outside edges with Czech fired glass amber beads in varying shades.  Then to top it off there are gold lined accent seed beads crossing over the top.

This bracelet is available in either my Etsy shop ( ) or my Zibbet shop ( ).  I will also entertain requests if other color combinations are desired.

More pictures and new items to come!  It's great to be back after the holidays!
